Even though I won’t put them in the item checklist, I will also mention every Estus Shard and Undead Bone Shard. I will also give you build advice and soul level goals at the beginning of every section, with a small checklist of all the items you should pay attention to. I will explain why every item I point out is important, what it does, and how to use it best. I will help you acquire everything you need (including all ashes, coals, tomes and scrolls), as fast as technically possible, in the best possible order, to reach respectively the ranks or True Mage, Archmage, and finally Battlemage on successive playthroughs.Īs we go, I will point out all the best spells, rings, weapons, catalysts and infusion paths, for every type of caster. I also believe that, tactically speaking, having a high-DMG ranged option is crucial and that not trying sorceries, miracles or pyromancies is missing out on a huge chunk of the game’s combat mechanics and possibilities. Which will make it only fair since, by the end of the game, you will be an absolute ranged powerhouse. You will get punished when taking a physical hit, and ironically enough, you will also get chastened by magic. I say challenging because cast speed has been reduced a lot since the first 2 installments of the franchise, and also because if you want your DMG output to be staggering (both figuratively and literally), you’ll have to gimp yourself by using equipment that will reduce both your physical and magical defenses, sometimes to values lesser than what you started the game with. Well, I’d say playing as a caster is extremely fun, interesting, and challenging. You might be wondering why you should play as Sorcerer, or as a caster in general.
I will focus heavily on Sorcerers, but I will also point out everything of interest to Clerics and Pyromancers along the way so, don’t worry, there will be fire, and there will be lightning. This guide will be dedicated to everyone who is interested in starting the game as a caster. The Sorcerer guide I wrote for Dark Souls II SOTFS was very late to the party, but seems to have somehow helped a good number of people, so I decided to write another one for Dark Souls III.
